Low to the ground
Close to the sea
Gliding along
Catching the breeze

Weaving clouds
Mesh fades
Then gathers
Drifting upon blue
Hiding the brightness
In waves of moments
Floating on the tide
Watching clouds
Gather, then fade
My eyes follow
The patterns
Woven in the sky

Ending
Thickening air
Heat rising
Mist hovering
Sight unseen
Glowing lights
Journey returning
Homeward bound
Feet aching
Smile wide
Ending time

One month in time
A season will change
As the moon hides the sun
Nature alters and renews
As a raindrop must fall
Water dispels in heat
As the world becomes dry
The earth will crack and explode
As snow falls
Thick and deep
As rain drops
Thick and deep
As fire burns
Thick and deep
A day
A season
A year
Different places
Changing times
A moment
A day
A season
A year
As snow falls
Thick and deep
As rain drops
Thick and deep
As fire burns
Thick and deep
As a year passes
Not to be forgotten
As a season passes
Not to be repeated
As a day passes
That's seared in memory
A moment passes
That may, one day, return!

As another summer approaches for Australia it makes me think about last summer and all the events that occured at the same time. The extremes of weather conditions still leaves me stunned. This poem is one I have been thinking about for a while and decided it was time to post it.
One of my friends asked me if I had a melody in mind. I did when I first wrote this and also it comes across when I read it that I still have one in mind. However, I neither have the knowledge or talent that allows me to create a melody that someone else could use. I am more than happy for someone else to do that.

Remember them
Who have gone before:
Remember them.
Do not forget
Their deeds:
Remember them.
Do not forget
Their sacrifices:
Remember them.
Lest we forget
Twittery version - tweeted 11/11/2009
I feel the presence of those who have gone before: remember them / Their deeds: remember them / Their sacrifice: remember them.

Frozen
The world freezes -
The ground I tread upon
All white and clean
Turning black
Polished and hidden
The wind rouses -
The leaves dancing lightly
They twirl and float
Then tumble
Lifeless and brittle
The air hovers -
The land a haze of mist
It gleams and shines
Yet still cloaked
Shrouded in coldness
The world frozen -
The ice starts to weep
Light warms and wakes
Then slumbers
Drowsy from fresh frost

Spirit of Open Access - Haiku
To celebrate Open Access Week 2009 SHERPA ran a competition to find a Haiku that summarises the "Spirit of Open Access".
After reading the winning haiku by Miggie Pickton I did not mind having one of my haiku being one of the many runners-up. Congratulations to Miggie for writing such a lovely and positive haiku that does capture capture the spirit of open access. Also thanks to SHERPA for coming up with such a fantastic idea.
Empowerment comes
To those who share their knowledge
With the world beyond
It seems a waste not to share the other three haiku that I entered so here they are :-)
Allow knowledge to grow free
A new world springs forth
Or should it be - I still can't make up my mind...
Seeking open skies
Allow knowledge to grow free
Spring forth a new world!
Who plant the seeds of progress
With all whom they know
Sow and harvest all knowledge
A garden for all.

On a dark street
On a dark, dark street
Rushing by, by the window
So many cars, cars rushing by
Sitting at a table, a table just for me
Watching so closely,
So closely as the world goes by
By the time, time has moved on
My meal is gone,
Gone and empty the plate remains
Time to go, go the long way home
On a dark, dark street
I rush by, by the window
So many cars, cars rushing by
Sitting at a table, a table just for you
Watching so closely,
So closely as the world goes by
By the time, time has moved on
Your meal is gone,
Gone and empty the plate remains
Time to go, go the long way home
